SIP trunks

Connect your own carrier — Jio, Airtel, Tata Tele, Vi, Exotel or any SIP provider — and keep the numbers and call rates you already have.

SIP must be switched on for your Daffy Voice server

SIP trunks run on a separate SIP server. If it hasn't been set up yet, the dialog shows SIP trunks aren't switched on yet and you can't connect a trunk. Ask your administrator — the GET /sip/info endpoint reports whether SIP is enabled.

Connect a trunk

  1. Open the SIP trunk dialog

In Phone Numbers, click Add a number and choose SIP trunk.

  2. Pick your carrier

Choose Jio, Airtel, Tata Tele, Vi, Exotel or Other SIP provider. Every carrier works the same way — a preset only pre-fills the settings. The carrier presets are marked Check the settings with your carrier: they are sensible starting values, not confirmed by each carrier.

  3. Fill in the connection

Under Connection, enter the SIP server and Port your carrier gave you (usually 5060), the Transport, and a Trunk name for your own reference.

  4. Choose how the carrier recognises you

Under Sign-in, pick one — see the next section.

  5. Add the first number

Under Number, enter a phone number on this trunk, an optional name, and the AI employee that answers it (or Choose later). Click Connect trunk.

Use UDP

The dialog offers UDP, TCP and TLS, but the SIP server currently only talks UDP. Choose UDP.

IP allowlist or username and password

  • Our IP is allowlisted — common for Jio, Airtel, Tata Tele and Vi. The dialog shows Give your carrier this IP to allowlist with our SIP server's IP and a Copy IP button. Send that IP to your carrier, and enter the IPs they send calls from in Carrier IPs, one per line.
  • Username & password — used by Exotel and most cloud SIP providers. Daffy Voice registers with the carrier using these details and keeps retrying if registration fails.

Number format and advanced settings

Open Advanced to change:

  • Number format — whether the carrier expects international (+91 80…) or national (080…) numbers. The Indian carrier presets use national; Exotel uses international.
  • Dial prefix — digits your carrier wants in front of every number you dial.
  • Max calls at once — how many calls the trunk carries at the same time (default 10). When it's full, new outgoing calls wait — about 30 seconds — instead of failing, and the wait doesn't use up a retry.

More numbers on the same trunk

Open the SIP trunk dialog again and choose Add a number to <your trunk>. To move a number to another trunk, delete it and add it there.

Good to know

  • A call to a SIP number with no AI employee attached is declined.
  • Voicemail detection isn't available on SIP calls — it works on Twilio and Plivo only. See Outbound calls.
