Inbound calls

When someone dials one of your numbers, the AI employee attached to that number picks up. That's the whole rule.

Answer calls on a number

  1. Have a number

Import a Twilio or Plivo number (Phone numbers) or add one on your carrier's trunk (SIP trunks).

  2. Make sure calls reach Daffy Voice

For Twilio and Plivo this is set automatically when you import the number. If the import message said it couldn't, copy the URL from the Receiving inbound calls card on Phone Numbers into the number's voice webhook in your provider's console. SIP numbers need no webhook.

  3. Attach an AI employee

On the number's card, pick an AI employee. The card shows Routed and Calls are answered by your AI employee. Call the number to try it.

No AI employee, no answer

A number left on None — not answering calls isn't answered by anyone. On a SIP trunk the call is declined.

Inbound workflows

You can also set up answering from a workflow that starts with an Inbound Number node. Choose your number in the node and connect it to an AI Agent node.

  • Go live attaches the number to the workflow's AI employee, and applies its Knowledge Base and Live Transfer nodes to that AI employee. Calls then reach it straight away. There's no calling list and nothing is dialled.
  • Take offline detaches the number, so it stops answering.

After-call steps are for outbound runs

Outcome routing, follow-ups and sending results to a webhook or Google Sheet run on the calls a workflow places with Start calling. Going live with an inbound workflow doesn't start a calling run, so don't rely on those steps for inbound calls.

What you see afterwards

Every inbound call shows up in your call logs, marked as inbound, with its transcript. See Call logs.
