Telephony overview
Phone numbers are how your AI employees reach the real phone network. You bring the number — from Twilio, Plivo or your own carrier — and attach an AI employee to it.
How it fits together
- A phone number belongs to your account and comes from one provider: Twilio, Plivo, or a SIP trunk from your own carrier (Jio, Airtel, Tata Tele, Vi, Exotel or any SIP provider).
- An AI employee is attached to the number. Calls that arrive on the number are answered by that AI employee. A number with no AI employee attached does not answer calls.
- Outgoing calls — from a campaign, a workflow or a test call — use one of your numbers as the caller ID.
You manage all of this under Phone Numbers in the dashboard. Each number card shows its provider, the AI employee answering it, and whether it is routed.
Choose a provider
- Twilio — good for US, UK and international numbers. Importing a Twilio number points its incoming calls at Daffy Voice for you.
- Plivo — good for Indian and international numbers. Daffy Voice also sets up incoming calls automatically.
- Your own carrier (SIP trunk) — keep the numbers and rates you already have with your carrier and connect them over SIP.
